The Stone Doctor: Art appreciation

Disclaimer: Bare in mind that my knowledge of Who is limited to the reboot series.

How come this never happened before? The Doctor travels through all of time and space, surely he must run into a depiction of his previous regenerations once in a blue moon. And if it did happen, what funny antics would ensure? Rose seems to be admiring the tunic clad statue's posterior. The Doctor appears to be upset with the use of his image without given permission. And might be a bit jealous of Rose's appreciative attitude toward a less than leather clad depiction of himself. I wanted a bit of Nine's old personality to poke through the Tenth Doctor for this one.

I imagine that after the Time War the Ninth Doctor might have sought, throughout history, comfort or at least comradeship with those who might understand what it is like to be a survivor of war. Sitting there among the survivors of horrid bloody conflicts stewing in his own hatred and self loathing, until he felt the calling to help people again. While hoping to maybe somehow die in the process. The Doctor might have visited with Roman soldiers during this brooding period and might have even saved a few of them from some alien threat. And maybe said Roman soldiers might have wanted to immortalize their appreciation to The Doctor after the fact... Could have happened. You can't prove that it didn't though.
