Open House

Sat Apr 4, 2009, 9:49 PM
Today was an interesting day. The teachers asked us to be in the animation lab all day because they would be having a bunch of prospective students coming to the art building. I guess they wanted us to help with making our program look all tempting and shiny to the "fresh meats" as we call freshmen jokingly. It was actually nice to get up early and get right started with animating because I felt I could go home earlier and attend to other academic and not so academic matters afterwards. Usually I'm in their late every night on the weekend.

I thought we were suppose to just be there to be seen by the new student in passing, but the teachers kinda set up a Q&A for these students in the adjoining classroom to the animation lab. Me being the curious type I poked in and look at the new faces. But I'm not as good at spontaneous socializing as I'd like to be, so I thought that I'd probably end up doing more harm than good when I first walked in and made my way around the room. I really wasn't matching up with any group and was about to go back to the lab and give up on actually socializing with these new students. But then surprise, Rishon decided to shows up in the room after all. I never pass up a chance to hang out with her, if it can be avoided, and seeing how she was doing okay among the fresh meats I decided to give it another shot.

Rishon is actually pretty good at picking nice people to hang out with so I figured I'd sit where ever she did for the best luck. And sure enough we meet a nice group of artists who I thought were very nice and showed promise. We answered some question they had about the program but mostly we swapped sketch books and told them about good drawing habits to get into. We also pimped our teacher Sheldon's artist bag to them and for good reason they are nice bags. I thought it was funny that one student seemed impressed that all my sketches in my academic sketch book were in pen. I guess I never think about it anymore, but I prefer pen because it doesn't smear as much as pencil. Plus it forces you to commit to your lines when you draw, heh. They seemed to like my drawings but of course I still think they looks like crude. Its been a nice day I guess, so if I could just get the last of my homework done than I will be happy!

Yeah I know I got one friend who can walk up to any group of people and be buddies in like five seconds! I can't figure out how he does it and he won't teach me proper! Oh and sorry we didn't talk, I wouldn't have mind sticking around for a few more minutes if you wanted to say hi. Any question you'd like to ask now?

you're so lucky, I remember when we had an open house at embry riddle I locked myself out of my room so I was stuck in the common lounge in my bathrobe as all the prospective students walked past me.

I'd have to agree on that socializing aspect part, because I'm not terribly good at it either. :3 Though, I guess when I manage to talk to someone who has common interests sometimes it can be a treat to meet new faces. I've recently started talking to some of the peeps in the department, but being assertive would take hella time mang. I'd have to hang out with you peeps more~

~Interviewer: Well, can you... blow up the world?
Tick: Egad. I hope not. That's where I keep all my stuff. ~

*sigh* I wish we had one of those in my area. The only animation that happens in this town is the local Disney animator that works from home ><''
And he doesn't really talk to anyone. Do you think you could share these "good habits" with us?

I am Dreamfinder in The Disney Character Claimers' Crew and The Country Bear Jamboree in Disney Parkhoppers' Claimers' Crew

The good habit to get into is to draw all the time from life and mentally stitch your sketch book to your hand and carry it with you everywhere. Never be without paper and a drawing implement.

sounds like it was fun. did a lot of people like your art?

So give me a reason!! to prove me wrong! to wash this memory clean! Let the floods cross. the distance in your eyes! Give me reason to fill this hole, connect the space between. let it be enough to reach the truth that lies!!
